We Are The Medicine: My Journey Through Darkness to Discover The Light Within is more than just a story of overcoming trauma; it’s a radical journey of reclamation and self-discovery. A reminder that it’s not what happens to us that defines our lives, but it’s the ways in which we make meaning of our life experiences that creates space for self-empowerment, transformation and ultimately the ability to become the creator or our own destinies.

Aiden has inhabited almost every identity being seen by others as gay, lesbian, straight, bisexual, male, female, transgender, rich, poor, an alcoholic, sober, a victim and a healer.  But none of those identities were his final home and some of them never fit at all.  Aiden exists in a space much vaster, more fluid and dynamic than any of these labels.

We Are The Medicine: My Journey Through Darkness to Discover The Light Within takes the reader on a journey from the depths of disempowerment through spiraling layers of healing to an ultimate place of empowerment and self-determination. In our current social and political climate perhaps by sharing our diverse stories, by owning them completely on our own terms, we can with courage shift from fear to love.
